Overview:

With the rising demand for renewable energy solutions, Tasmania faces a critical need to expand its solar and battery storage workforce. In 2021, Future Energy Skills (FES) collaborated with TasTAFE to analyse the state’s solar and battery training landscape. The study revealed a lack of local training opportunities due to two primary challenges: insufficient qualified educators and the absence of a suitable training facility equipped with necessary resources.

Using these findings, FES partnered with TasTAFE to secure funding from the Tasmanian Government. This project aims to establish a robust local training infrastructure, enhancing Tasmania’s capacity to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in solar and battery storage systems.

Key steps in the initiative included:

  • Train-the-Trainer Program: Upskilled multiple Tasmanian educators to deliver nationally accredited training in solar PV and battery storage systems.
  • Resource Development: Provided comprehensive learning and assessment materials aligned with national standards.
  • Facility Enhancement: Secured essential equipment, including the construction of two simulated roof structures, to create a state-of-the-art training environment.
  • Accreditation Support: Ensured TasTAFE has the necessary national units on scope for continued delivery of solar and battery training.
