NECA Education & Careers is not your ‘run of the mill’ trade school or Group Training Organisation (GTO)… it is a smallish business which thrives on delivering great customer service to everyone who walks through our doors.
Owned and operated by the electrical industry, our customers range from pre-apprentices/apprentices to top tier electrical contractors.
We partner with employers to determine the skills they need and manage all their recruitment, employment, training, mentoring, payroll, and administration along the journey to ensure the apprentice/trainee successfully completes and ideally continues on within their business.
NECA Education & Careers also provides training to the electrical industry as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in our purpose-built facilities. This includes pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeships and industry short courses and qualifications.
Our purpose-built classrooms and workshop offer students an environment that allows for the theory to become reality in areas including switchboard fit out; grid connect; roughing out power outlets, switches and lights; and building and testing electrical circuits.
Since opening our doors in 1992, we have employed over 2,500 apprentices, training approximately 160 pre-apprentices and approximately 700 electrical apprentices each year.
We train approximately 2,000 electricians/electrical contractors through industry short courses and qualifications.
Students at NECA Education & Careers have an 85.5% completion rate compared to the average rate of 54.6% for electrotechnology and telecommunications trades workers (Based on 2009 Start/Completions, 2013 Completion and Attrition Rates for Apprentices and Trainees, NCVER).
The statistics are around suicide in the construction industry are less positive, leading our staff to ask ‘how can we help stop this?’ Knowing they are in the fortunate position to be able to assist apprentices and trainees, this led to the creation of the ‘Let’s Connect’ program.
The purpose of ‘Let’s Connect’ is to mentor, guide and help our apprentices and trainees through difficult situations they may face during their apprenticeship or traineeship. These issues include bullying and harassment, drugs and alcohol, mental health and difficulties at work or school.
Each pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship class in the trade school and every trainee and apprentice employed by NECA Education & Careers has a mentor to ensure there is someone they can go to for help.
Partnering with like-minded and regulatory bodies to help make a difference to the lives of people working in the electrical industry is pivotal to our vision.
