October 2020 marked 100 years of Electrical Licensing Examinations.

The first electrical licenses were issued in April 1920 and were provided to ‘wiremen’ who were already established in the trade.
The licensing examinations have changed over the years, and the term ‘examination’ is no longer used. Now called the Licensed Electricians Assessments (LEA), the assessments are carried out by assessment bodies approved by ESV (Energy Safe Victoria). Since 1920, over sixty thousand electricians have completed their licence assessments.
During October ESV Senior Compliance Officer, Education & Assessment, Sue Sizer visited Future Energy Skills to mark this occasion. With a presentation on the history of licensing, Sue provided the apprentices in attendance with an ESV 100 year souvenir.
